We assembled in the morning in the parade square in school, listening to our camp chief yelling at the top of his lungs at us, telling us that we didn't sit or stand fast enough. What crap ! His name was Ahmad, but he said he wasn't pure Malay, and he looked like he had four extra front teeth. Who cares? He strode into the parade square...
- Ahmad : "ORCHID PARK OIIIIIII !!!!!!!!!!!!"
- Pupils : "Oiii!!!!!"
- luckily it was loud enough.
- Ahmad: "Sit up straight !!"
- Pupils: *straighten their backs*
- Ahmad: "When I ask you a question, you must say, 'No, boss' or 'Yes, boss.' UNDERSTAND?!!! I am your camp chief, and you must call me 'Boss' ."
- Pupils: "Yes, Boss !"
- Ahmad : "WAHHH ! Even my grandmother shout louder than all of you.! ONE MORE TIME !"
- Pupils : "YES, BOSS !!!!!"
- Ahmad:"OK. When I count to five, you all must stand up - 1,2 ,-5 !!!"
- We try to stand as quickly as we could, but as we were all squeezed in tightly, there was little space we could extend our knees without getting hit HARD.
- Ahmad : "WAHHH ! Even my grandmother can stand faster than you all !! ONE MORE TIME !"
- He IS deranged.
-.- ..
- and so this continued for about 15 mintues, then after that we had our attendance marked and our bags checked by our instructors. My instructor 's name was Jenna. We were in group 8. She's quite nice, la.
*AT THE LABRADOR CAMPSITE*
- At first glance, you could see two rock walls. One looked like the rocks were gonna drop, another looked like the wooden frame would break if anyone climbed on it. I duuno which one was worse.
- We went to the hall and learn some lame and funny cheers. There were stuff such as the "Blur Sotong cheer", "Silent clap" -heard this tons of times, "the 'OIIII!!' cheer", "The Merlion clap"- when we pretend to vomit, "The macho clap"-kinda crappy...the rest I forgot. The instructors all had a super funny slanging match, the after that were went for lunch(the veggies were yellow!) and we did rock climbing, abseiling, flying-fox together with group 7 as there were quite a lot of peeps absent and our groups were small. I think I have fallen in love with all the activities on the first day! ABSEILING! ROCK CLIMBING ! FLYING FOX ! THEY ALL ROCK!
- They were very easy.. I only got messed up with things that we shouldn't be messed-up with like the safety-harnesses and other buckle things.. I hated the helmets the most. The team-building games were fun too, but it was a little bit annoying... and they were the same games as we did in the sec one camp. I forgot what we did after that, but we had numerous water breaks and we had our bath before dinner.
- Oh yeah, and my group had to serve the others first. It wasn't so bad, of all the people that I met while serving, I could remember: Shao Wei and De Shun, Arvinder, Farhan, Melvin, Harkiran, Zhi Sheng, Zhi Qing, Shi Wei, Jean and Jane. Except that the fried egg I was serving was a little grey... and those little oily pieces of egg kept sticking to each other.. AND it was irritating...AND after everyone was served, I had my food AND everyone did the silly makan cheer before we ate-I'm not gonna embarrass myself on this blog, but if I type it out, it will make me sound like a lunatic. GOSH.
- after that, really sian : a really dumb night-trust walk, where we walked around blindfolded with only directions passed on by our friends to lead us on, then reflections, lights out-*. Bunk mates were chattering away and I couldn't sleep, so I packed my stuff for kayaking the next day, and then I chattered away too. (:
- 6.15am , rise and shine ! I was feeling really lazy and tired and sleepy and winded as I only fell asleep on Rachel's bed at around 4.15AM. Nevertheless, I grabbed my toothbrush and rushed off to the toilet. to my surprise, it was EMPTY ! happily did my stuff, and then back to dorm 18 to wait for Safwah & Co. at 6.50AM, we assembled at the basketball court and waited for the bus to arrive and bring us to Changi Coast MOE Adventure Centre for our kayaking and improvised rafting lesson. We did these activities with groups 7, 9 and 10. On the journey, we passed VivoCity. It was just opposite us, staring through the window. So near, yet so far. and slong Sheares bridge, we passed... The WHOLE Marina Bay area. Millenia Walk, Marina Square, Suntec City and... THE ESPLANADE. I was reminded WE WILL ROCK YOU. and HIM !!! xD...
- felt a nasty pang to get out of the bus and run to the ESPLANADE, but it was just impossible. The Singapore Flyer, as usual, was immobile.
*AT CHANGI COAST MOE ADVENTURE CENTRE*
- Had our improvised rafting session first. we learnt how to tie various knots and lashing by Sharil, another instructor. I wasn't knot dumb, so I caught it all quite easily. We had 6 PVC pipes, 4 barrels and many different lengths of a type of rope which was elastic. Shi Yun (from 3A1) and me were helping Gavin to hold up the PVC pipes while he did one knot called "square lashing" ?? really boring, I ended up with the lousiest job...
- the came the fun part ! after grabbing lifejackets or whatever those floaty things were called, we went the kayaking section. After being taught how to handle a kayak and the paddle, we were told we had to do it in pairs, girl + boy, preferably with someone we had not talked to a lot. Wasn't so bad as I thought it would turn out to beSo, Safwah and Jerr, Amira and Gavin, Mei Hui and Melvin, Farhan and me. I forgot the rest.
- and then...I LOVE KAYAKING !!! I JUST LOVE IT SO MUCH !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
- Such short-lived joy. When we all gathered at the safety line, we went through a practice, then came back. The instructor there was like,
- "OK ! Front people hold on to the boat, better make sure they don't break ranks, or else arh ! and back people just splash the front people with seawater!" very funnayy, eh ? -.-
- so I got wet. I didn't really mind. Later, the front people had to stand up in the kayaks. I was at the end, and there was a guy called Jia Rong beside me. Everyone in the front gripped elbows, and tried to balance. In the end, JR overbalanced and fell into the water. Since he did not let go of my elbow, I fell in too. -.- Now I do mind it a lot.
- We played catching in the sea with the instructors, and we caught them in the end. They had to do a forfeit. so they capsized and backflipped for us. then we rowed back to the shore, and Farhan decided to capsize the boat. Sure, why not, really? Nearer to the shore, we capsized. After I found my footing, I realised that he lost his specs. jeez, at that point in time I felt really guilty that I FORGOT to remind him to take off his specs. It was like, so obvious, and I forgot!D=
- Tried to find them but to no avail. We had to carry the kayaks back up and they were so heavy. I had barely enough strength to lift it up while climbing back up the slope. had a quick shower and lunch. back to Labrador for campfire and other crap.... -.- *lights out* azira came over, was glad for that, very glad. We talked about guys until we both fell asleep. =X
- campfire was okay okay.. gonna end soon.
washing toilets after breakfast. They put chili in the noodles ! ugh. Scrubbed those smelly toilet bowls with Reeta, then went back to the hall for a survey and played some games which were utterly boring. Asembled once more in the basketball court according to our classes, and played Simon Says with Ahmad, our camp chief, then home. =D
